Nativity Display Lights up Times Square in NYC

The iconic Times Square in New York City was turned into a beacon of hope and light on November 27 thanks to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The church lit up the city’s centre with an amazing Nativity show as part of its yearly Light the World campaign, hoping to provide happiness and hope to everyone over the Christmas season.

Twenty-seven digital screens showing Nativity scenes against a backdrop of midnight blue starry skies were present in Times Square as part of the event. The sequences were intended to encourage viewers to consider Jesus Christ’s teachings and allow their own light to shine. The moving Bible verse John 8:12, which declares, “I am the light of the world,” accompanied the exhibit.

Monsignor Kevin Sullivan of Catholic Charities applauded the idea and partnered with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in this joint endeavour to offer light to a world experiencing hardships. The collaboration emphasised the shared dedication to promoting themes of optimism and hope throughout the Christmas season.

“Giving Machines” were presented as part of the Light the World campaign in Times Square and 60 other cities across the globe. Compared to the previous year, when the Giving Machines were accessible in 28 cities, this represented a major expansion. The Times Square Giving Machines are a novel idea that enable people to donate to charity via an interface akin to a vending machine. They have a permanent holiday home in front of The Church of Our Saviour, located at 59 Park Ave.

The Light the World initiative’s ongoing success and growth, along with the addition of Giving Machines to more locations throughout the world, highlight the campaign’s expanding influence and reach in promoting generosity and goodwill over the holiday season. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its partners are working together to create a lasting impact on communities all across the world by emulating the kindness and giving that characterise the Christmas season.
